DreamCloud Mattress Review Best Boxed Bed Mattress 2017
I’m super excited about today’s review because I’ll be taking a look at a couple of of the newest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress.
This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be as lavish as it is supportive.
To determine how nicely this hybrid lives up to this goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what type of sleeper could benefit from it most.
Read on below for my full review of the DreamCloud mattress. Best Boxed Bed Mattress 2017
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile to get a mattress in a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different substances at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together.
Cover: The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. It also is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers: beneath the cover, you’ll locate three thin layers of foam. When these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress.
The center of the three layers is especially significant for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations supports even more cooling.
These individually wrapped springs provide that the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the construction.
The coils also help in controlling temperature as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer: A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the most important use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us chat concerning the firmness and feel.
I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers.
My hand sunk to the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a nicelift from the springs.
At this time I’d like to remember that individuals of distinct body shapes and types will feel firmness otherwise.
Rather than giving just my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to present their view as well.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good mattress.
As you’ll feel some slight sinking out of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress. Best Boxed Bed Mattress 2017
Instead of just describing the sense of this DreamCloud to you, I wished to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it.
To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach .
Back: After in my spine, my weight was evenly dispersed during the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed whatsoever.
The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side: As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips.
However, I felt encouraged and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach: Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers.
I must mention that I managed to transition across these places with relative ease. Best Boxed Bed Mattress 2017
If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse , you will want to learn what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night.
This second test is intended to demonstrate that the high level of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress into another.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance. The DreamCloud shows a bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress.
While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d nevertheless look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils.
This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress , many individuals want to know whether they will sense like they are sinking”into” the mattress or placing”on top” of it.
To picture this sinkage, I placed four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
- 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
- 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
- 50 pound medication ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
- 100 pound medication ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you are going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support.
This combo will interest a broad variety of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular. Best Boxed Bed Mattress 2017
If you’re likely to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is likely to be crucial that you consider the quantity of edge support it will provide.
I’m particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the border support of more conventional innerspring models.Lying on my spine, I felt supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle .
Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too spectacular. Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system below.
This system, along with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight. In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience intense compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
