DreamCloud Mattress Review Best Mattress Sale Memorial Day 2015
I’m super excited about the present review because I’ll be having a look at one of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress.
This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be lavish as it’s supportive.
To determine how well this hybrid lives up to this goal, I have put it through a series of tests to measure its overall comfort and determine what sort of sleeper could benefit from it .
Read on below for my entire review of this DreamCloud mattress. Best Mattress Sale Memorial Day 2015
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile to get a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another.
Cover: The cover is written of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It is also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers: Below the cover, you’ll locate three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress.
The middle of the three layers is especially significant for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these little ventilations promotes even more cooling.
These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure.
The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for constant air flow.
Foundation Layer: A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and giving a solid foundation for the entire.
After with a look at the construction of this DreamCloud, let us speak about the firmness and feel.
I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers.
My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils experienced a nicelift from springs.
At this point I’d love to recall that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness otherwise.
As opposed to giving only my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three others to give their opinion also.
This provides you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the remaining testers that it is definitely a good mattress.
As you will feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of that bed and make you feel like you are sleeping on top of the mattress. Best Mattress Sale Memorial Day 2015
Instead of simply describing the sense of this DreamCloud to you, I wished to supply a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it.
To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach.
Back: Once in my spine, my weight was evenly dispersed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking to the mattress whatsoever .
The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side: As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and buttocks.
However, I felt encouraged and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach: Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers.
I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease. Best Mattress Sale Memorial Day 2015
Should you plan on sharing your bed with a partner , you’ll want to learn what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around through the night.
This second test is intended to demonstrate that the high level of movement that’s detectable from one side of the mattress into another .
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance. The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the contrary side of the mattress.
While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils.
This usually means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed spouse’s midnight shimmies, making this a great alternative for couples.
When purchasing a new bed, many people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into ” the mattress or laying”on top” of it.
To picture this sinkage, I put four chunks of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
- 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
- 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
- 50 pound medication ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
- 100 pound medication ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
As you are going to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support.
This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers particularly. Best Mattress Sale Memorial Day 2015
If you are likely to share your bed with a spouse and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial that you consider the amount of border support it’ll provide.
I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.Lying in my spine, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle .
Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic. Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under.
This system, along with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a excellent job of supporting my weight. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
