DreamCloud Mattress Review Best Mattress 2017 Consumer Reports
I am super excited about the current review since I’ll be having check out a few of the latest beds on the market: the DreamCloud hybrid mattress.
This bad boy combines high-density foam with encased coils for a sleeping experience that promises to be lavish as it’s supportive.
To determine how nicely this hybrid lives up to this goal, I’ve put it through a series of tests to measure its overall relaxation and determine what type of sleeper would benefit from it most.
Read below for my entire review of this DreamCloud mattress. Best Mattress 2017 Consumer Reports
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile to get a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts , which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and a lot of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive in these layers to see how well they interact with one another.
Cover: The cover is written of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It also is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers: beneath the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While those segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to stress, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress.
The middle of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these little ventilations encourages even more cooling.
These individually wrapped springs provide that the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure.
The coils also assist in controlling temperatures as the distances between them allow for constant air flow.
Foundation Layer: A thin coating of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire.
After having a look at the building of this DreamCloud, let us speak about the firmness and feel.
My hand sunk to the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to socialize with the pocketed coils experienced a nicelift from the springs.
At this time I’d like to note that individuals of distinct body shapes and types will feel firmness otherwise.
Rather than giving only my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view also.
I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good mattress.
As you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel like you are sleeping on top of the mattress. Best Mattress 2017 Consumer Reports
Rather than simply describing the sense of the DreamCloud to you, I wished to supply a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it.
To do this, I put a pressure map in addition to the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach . You can view the effects on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back: After on my spine, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all.
The quilted cover supplied quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side: As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to sense pressure forming at my shoulders and buttocks.
However, I nevertheless felt encouraged and the very best foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach: Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a good job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers.
I should mention that I handled to transition across these positions with relative ease. Best Mattress 2017 Consumer Reports
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner , you may want to know what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around through the night.
This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of movement that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress into the other.
To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. Steel ball from peaks of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance. The DreamCloud indicates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress .
While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d nevertheless look at the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils.
This usually means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
If buying a new bed, most people wish to know whether they will sense as though they are sinking”into” the mattress or laying”on top” of it.
To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
- 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
- 10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
- 50 pound medication ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
- 100 lb medication ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
As you are going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you may hit on the wrapped coils and texture fantastic support.
This combo will attention a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers specifically . Best Mattress 2017 Consumer Reports
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I’m especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the border support of more traditional innerspring models.Lying in my spine, I sensed as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the center.
Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic. Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under.
This system, collectively with the polyfoam border support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this place, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
